Q1: What services do you provide and what are the fees?

We provide tailored comprehensive asset management solutions to high net worth individuals and families, professionals and business owners.

Similar to the banks and most other financial institutions, we take investment management fees.

Our management fees are usually lower than the banks, often in the range of 1% - 2%, depending on investment size and client situation.  Also included in our investment management fees are our full asset management services such as customized portfolio, ongoing review and adjustment, retirement planninng, estate and succession planning, and annual asset and tax optimization. – added value for your money

Q2: What kind of investment return could I expect? Are they after fees?

We will build you a tailored portfolio after taking consideration of your wealth, taxes, risk and target return information.

For your reference, below are long-term annualized return you could expect:

  • Conservative Portfolio:       3% - 6%

  • Core Multi-Asset Portfolio: 6% - 12%

  • Growth Portfolio:                12% - 20%

All returns are investor net returns(after management fees)

Q3: How is it different if I obtain insurance through you vs. insurance companies directly e.g. Sun Life, Manulife

In Canada, for the same insurance solution (eg. Sun Life Term 10 Standard) , you will get the same price and terms/conditions whether you obtain it through the insurance companies/its salesforce, or insurance brokers/asset management firms. Prices are determined based on information like your age, gender, health conditions, but not where you get your insurance. Some insurance companies do not deal with clients directly, so clients need to obtain insurance through one of the licensed company/individuals. As you have probably guessed, insurance companies often claim their own products are the best, even if you are better suited with another company's solution.

 

We could provide solutions from major insurance firms in Canada (24 companies), compare prices/performance/terms, and choose the best solutions for you based on your unique needs and circumstances. We offer complete service from application, policy change, cash value redeeming and claims. In addition, for all our clients, we perform asset and tax optimization for your family/corporation annually. Our clients could also enjoy other complimentary GW benefits and perks.

Q4: How is it different if I open an investment account (eg. TFSA, RRSP) through you vs. the banks eg. RBC, TD?

In terms of the account opening process, CRA tax reporting and capital security, there is no difference.

We have clients transferring their investments form the banks to our asset management firms every month, and they provided the following feedback:

  1. Banks offer limited choices, mostly GIC and its own mutual funds, which often are retail portfolios with higher volatility.

  2. Bank advisors often are not focused on investment and asset management, and have many other sales target. Advisors also tend to have high turnover, making relationship management and ongoing communication challenging.

  3. Investing at the bank feels like a one-time transaction; clients often do not have a holitic asset management and tax optimization plan.

Q5: Could I transfer my investments (eg. GIC, Mutual Funds) at the bank to you for consolidation and optimization?

Absolutely, and it is simple. We have clients transferring their investments form the banks to our asset management firms every month. Our back office is connected with most banks and financial institutions in Canada. You simply provide an investment account statement and complete a transfer form, and our back office will take care of the rest. Once we set up your account, you will be able to view all your investment information online.

Q6: How do I open an account with GW Capital (eg. TFSA, RRSP) ? What information do you need?

Once we have your investment portfolio details, we will help you open an account online or on paper. We would need the following basic information, same as if you open an account at the banks:

   1. Account Holder Driver's License and SIN Number

   2A. (for New Account) Bank Account Direct Deposit Form or Void Cheque

   2B. (for Transfer from banks/other institutions) Investment Account Statement and Account Number

Q7: Is my money secure and protected?

Yes. Your money will be directed to the investment portfolios and online platforms of your choice, eg. Sun Life, iA Financial Group, RBC etc. Your funds are protected by CIPF and/or Assuris, same as the investment accounts at the banks and/or insurance companies.

Q8: Could I check my investment performance online?

Yes. Once your account is set up, you will receive login details for you to view your investments online (laptop or mobile). You will also receive periodic paper statements in mail. If you have any questions, you can contact us or the client service number.

Q9: Do you invest your own money in the same investment portfolios?

Yes, we certainly do. We practice what we preach. We believe in our investment philosophy and multi-asset institutional investment portfolios, as well as insurance strategies. Our objectives are aligned with yours, to achieve steady long-term capital appreciation. We look forward to grow our investments alongside you!

Q10: Are there any fees for an initial meeting?

No. In order to get to know you and learn about your goals, we will invite you to complete a brief initial consultation form. Based on your response, we will help you set up an initial complimentary consultation with one of our consultants (usually 15 minute video conference). Once you become our clients, we perform asset and tax optimization for your family/corporation annually.

Q11: Where are you located?

We are located in Toronto and Vancouver.

  1. For Asset Management Services (eg. Investments like TFSA,RRSP or Insurance), we currently only operate in Ontario and British Columbia; we may expand to other provinces in the future.

  2. For Fee-based consultation/asset and tax optimization plan, we currently serve clients anywhere in Canada.
